Recently WhatsApp updated its device on Tuesday and announced that they are going to end support for the Microsoft windows phones. However this support will end on December 31, 2019. Also Windows Phone 8 and later versions of Microsoft windows phone will still support WhatsApp. End of support will apply on all windows phone platforms.
For your kind information, In 2017 whatsapp ended support for Blackberry OS and Windows Phone 7 in 2016.. Also it has stopped working for old Android versions 2.3.3. Seeing to its security updates WhatsApp is going to end support for Windows Phone users.
WhatsApp is Ending Support for Windows Phones
However, in this end support doesn’t mean that it will not get future security update. In this end support WhatsApp will not work on any Windows phone platform at the end of 2019. In 2017, whatsapp announced that they are going to end support for windows Phone 8.0 platform and now they are going to stop for all windows phones.

Also whatsapp notified their users through their mobile device support blog post. Now the app will stop working for old versions of Android (v2.3.7 and older) and iOS (iOS 7 and older) on February 1, 2020.
WhatsApp UWP
On Tuesday WABetaInfo tweeted that now WhatsApp is giving its precious time to develop a Universal Windows Platform (UWP) app. With the help of this app you can easily use whatsapp on new versions of Windows Phone and Windows Desktop platforms.
